One of those pictures of "Portraits of 2nd generation 3HO sikh boys in full Nihang regalia" is me. I remember when all of those were taken. You should know that all of those pictures were a joke. We did not dress like that. Your blog is your opinions and your experiences, I would never say that those are wrong in those. But many of your facts are dead wrong. How and where Guru Meher Singh died while teaching women to shoot is wrong. You make it sound as if every card carrying 3HO western Sikh has a gun and knows how to use it. Actually very few own or even know how to use a gun of any kind. "ladies camp" has not heard a firearm being discharged on over 20 years. "Childrens camp" and "solstice" and any of the other events put on have no firearms training, martial arts or any other type of martial training. And the concept of warrior saint was not put forth by Yogi Bhajan, Sant Saphai is deeply rooted in the Khalsa faith.

Bottom line, sounds like you did not like your childhood upbringing. No problem. Sounds like you have a lot of issues with 3HO and Sikh Dharma of the Western Hemishere. No problem.Your experiences are yours, your likes and dislikes are yours. Its not a right or wrong / good and bad thing. Just leave open the possibility that the way you remember it is not the way everyone else there remembers it. We all took away varying memories and perspectives. We had a whacky childhood without a doubt but I do not remember it being so horrific.

"So they meditated whilst militarizing themselves. They practiced yoga and they practiced shooting guns–at Ram Das Puri, our privately owned, hilltop children's camp-slash-yoga festival-slash-firing range."

Great article. Very eye opening, profound, impactful. Thank you so much.
